The right renovation order helps prevent finished work being damaged and reduces unnecessary rework. The exact sequence varies by property, but the messy and structural work should normally happen before decorating and final flooring.
1. Strip-out and preparation
Remove unwanted kitchens, bathrooms, old flooring, wallpaper and other finishes that are being replaced. This exposes the condition of the property and allows hidden defects to be identified before new finishes are installed.
2. Plumbing, electrics and wall repairs
Complete first-fix plumbing and electrical alterations before walls are repaired. Follow with plasterboard repairs, plastering or skimming where required so the surfaces are ready for installation and decoration.
3. Kitchens, bathrooms and final finishes
Install the main kitchen and bathroom elements in the planned sequence, then complete decorating. Delicate flooring, carpets, trims, doors, sealant, touch-ups and snagging should generally come towards the end. R&N Housing Solutions can coordinate the trades and sequence as one renovation project.
